Beyond the Mountains Fund is a regranting program of Tinworks Art, a contemporary nonprofit arts organization based in Bozeman, Montana, offered in partnership with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts as a Regional Regranting partner. Each year, the fund awards one $10,000 grant and ten $5,000 grants to support independent, public-facing visual arts projects by artists based and living in Montana.

About the Program
Beyond the Mountains Fund is committed to centering artists from diverse backgrounds by fostering innovation. Through this program, Tinworks Art provides Montana-based artists with resources to pursue independent, public-facing projects that encourage experimentation and collaboration.
Each year we award one grant of $10,000 and ten grants of $5,000 to support artist-led visual arts projects across Montana. This program is made possible in partnership with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts as a Regional Regranting partner.
Eligibility
- Artist(s) must be based and living in Montana.
- Priority given to Indigenous artists, emerging artists, and mid-career artists working in the region. Established artists are also eligible if seeking support to explore new, experimental, or previously underdeveloped areas of their practice.
- Projects must be artist-organized and self-initiated. 501(c)(3) organizations and for-profit businesses are ineligible.
- Projects must take place in Montana, outside a conventional studio or commercial gallery setting, and be accessible to the public without an admission or participation fee.
Funding
- 50% of grant funds are disbursed up front upon award; 50% upon completion of an interim project report.
- All grant funds must be expended within the grant period.
What Reviewers Look For
- Full completion of eligibility guidelines and all application components.
- A clearly outlined project — timeline, benchmarks and goals, community impact, one-year feasibility, budget, and a plan for documentation and public presentation.
- Artistic strength and merit, feasibility, public engagement and the project's potential to expand the visibility and reach of the artist's work, and alignment with the program's focus on independent, experimental artists and underrepresented voices.
